Major Injuries - Week 9

Several major injuries occurred in Week 9.
Let's take a closer look.

Chad Johnson: Ocho Cinco was carried off on a stretcher after going across the middle late and hitting his head hard on the ground. Johnson reportedly had movement in his arms and legs. A CT scan on his neck came back negative, so that is good news. He made the Bengals' flight home, so this doesn't appear to be anything overly serious.

Larry Johnson: LJ had to be helped off of their field after suffering an ankle injury. He could not put any weight on that ankle. He was carted off the field.

Jay Cutler: Cutler was dragged down hard and carted off the field early in the game. He reportedly has a contusion on his leg. He was hit on his leg with a helmet as he was going down, and his leg got caught up on some shoulder pads while being hit. He did not return to the game. Current rumor is that he suffered a broken or fractured ankle.

Ahman Green: After a surprisingly hot start today, Green is out with a knee injury.

Brandon Jackson: Jackson suffered a concussion against the Chiefs.

NFL Records: Adrian Peterson - 30 carries - 295 yards - 3 TDs.
Antonio Cromartie - 109 yard return of a missed FG - Longest play in NFL history.

Game Day Inactives - Week 9

Here is a list of the Major Game Day Inactives as pertains to your Fantasy team.

Bengals: Both Rudi Johnson and Kenny Watson are ACTIVE. Watson will get the start.

Bills: Trent Edwards is inactive. J.P. Losman starts.

Chiefs: Eddie Kennison is inactive.

Colts: Marvin Harrison is inactive.

Eagles: Jason Avant is inactive.

Falcons: Alge Crumpler and Byron Leftwich are inactive. Joey Harrington starts.

Jaguars: David Garrard is inactive. Quinn Gray starts.

Jets: Laveranues Coles is inactive.

Packers: Bubba Franks is inactive. DeShawn Wynn has been put on IR.

Panthers: Vinny Testaverde is inactive.

Week 8 Fallout

Let's take a look inside the Week 8 NFL action as it pertains to Fantasy Football.

Steven Jackson returned to action and looked to be on his way to a big day with an excellent first quarter. Unfortunately, he only lasted for that one quarter.
Jackson left the game and has a bulging disk in his back, due to his overcompensation for his injured groin. The Rams are on a bye in Week 9 and S-Jax's status is uncertain for Week 10.

Speaking of Texans, Coach Kubiak has admitted that he is concerned about Ahman Green's knee and is uncertain if Green can go in Week 9. Adimchinobe Echemandu has hamstring issues, but could be a decent flex play if Green is out.

It is looking likely that the Raiders will start to employ a true RBBC. Look for them to utilize a time share between LaMont Jordan and Justin Fargas. Feel free to get rid of Dominic Rhodes if he is taking up space on your roster.

Rumor is that Ravens RB Mike Anderson could take over short yardage responsibilities. This would be a significant hit to Willis McGahee's value if it pans out.

Kenny Watson sustained a concussion during Week 8. His status for Week 9 is uncertain, but he has a very favorable match up against the Bills if he can go.

Ryan Grant made like every RB that faces them and carved up the Broncos' feeble rush defense on Monday Night Football. Expect him to start once again in Week 9. DeShawn Wynn made it through one entire carry before injuring his shoulder.

Matt Schaub started for the Texans in Week 8 and suffered a concussion for his efforts. We will likely see Sage Rosenfels under center in Week 9.

The Kellen Clemens Era begin in Week 9 for the Jets. Drop Chad Pennington if you have him. It is unlikely that Clemens will have Laveranues Coles available to throw to, however. Coles suffered a concussion in Week 8.

Marc Bulger continues to get battered. He now has a thumb injury to deal with in addition to his ribs.

Rumors are circulating that the Dolphins, who will be on a Week 9 bye, will start John Beck at QB in Week 10. Either way, you should have absolutely no interest in starting a rookie QB on the NFL's worst team. Feel free to cut Cleo Lemon loose.

Quinn Gray cashed in a decent performance against the Bucs in Week 8. Word is that he will start at least once more. If you're in a Week 9 QB crunch, you could do worse than Gray against the shaky Saints secondary. Still, don't expect the Jags to suddenly become pass-happy.
Still no definitive word on when David Garrard will return.

Nobody is sure yet who will start at QB in Week 9 for the Panthers. Neither Vinny Testaverde and his injured Achilles nor David Carr and his injured back make a suitable option for your fantasy team. This is also bad news for owners of Steve Smith.

Calvin Johnson re-aggravated his back injury after being pulled down from behind. No word yet on his Week 9 status.

Andre Johnson will likely practice more this week, but it would be a surprise to see him on the field until Week 11, after the Texans' Week 10 bye.

Texans TE Owen Daniels suffered a high ankle sprain and his status for Week 9 is uncertain. He is likely to sit with Houston's bye upcoming, and his status will also likely be questionable for Week 11 since high ankle sprains tend to take a while to heal.

Game Day Inactives - Week 8

Here is our Weekly look at who is inactive, and any major questionable stars that are active.

Browns: Jamal Lewis is ACTIVE. He will likely share carries, though.

49ers: Frank Gore and Alex Smith are ACTIVE. Darrell Jackson is inactive.

Giants: Derrick Ward is inactive. Plaxico Burress is ACTIVE.

Jaguars: David Garrard is inactive. Maurice Jones-Drew is ACTIVE, although there is a good chance that Fred Taylor leads the team in touches.

Jets: Laveranues Coles is ACTIVE and will start.

Vikings: Tarvaris Jackson is inactive, Kelly Holcomb will start.

Week 6 Fallout

Week 6 largely avoided major injuries. A first for 2007.
Let's take a look at what did happen.

Vince Young - QB - Tennessee Titans
Young left the game on Sunday with a quadriceps strain. Jeff Fisher is hopeful that Young can play in Week 7, and has stated that there is no need for any surgery. If he can't go, Kerry Collins will start.

Kurt Warner - QB - Arizona Cardinals
The first game after taking over as the primary QB, Warner goes down with a torn ligament in his non-throwing elbow. Speculation is that he may only miss 1 game (the Cards have a bye in Week 8). Tim Rattay should start in Week 7. Tim Hasselbeck has been signed as a backup. Yikes.

Brandon Jacobs - RB - New York Giants
Jacobs left MNF late with an ankle injury. It is not believed to be serious, and he should be good to go in Week 7. Still, there are concerns that he is struggling to much to stay on the field.

Sammy Morris - RB - New England Patriots
Everybody's favorite waiver grab now has a chest injury and word is that he'll be out a minimum of 2 games, possibly longer. Laurence Maroney should finally return in Week 7, although Kevin Faulk will also get some touches.

Ben Watson - TE - New England Patriots
Watson was pulled down from behind by Dallas' Roy Williams. Word is that he will be out at least 2 weeks. Kyle Brady takes over as interim starter.

Alex Smith - TE - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Smith suffered an ankle injury on Sunday. He is questionably for Week 7, especially if it turns out to be a high ankle sprain.

Bubba Franks - TE - Green Bay Packers
Franks was carted off the field with a knee injury. It's a sprain, but this should firmly cement Donald Lee as The Pack's top TE option.

Lastly, this didn't happen in Week 6, but a semi-major trade has occurred.
The Dolphins have sent Chris Chambers to the Chargers for a 2nd round pick.
Chambers has always been a streaky player, and his effort is always in question.
Chambers will take over as San Diego's WR1, bumping Vincent Jackson and his "hands of stone" down, and probably bumping Eric Parker completely out of the picture.
Chambers will likely see fewer targets in San Diego than he saw in Miami, actually decreasing his value. If you're a Chambers owner, you should hype this trade up as much as possible and look to sell high on the hype. If you don't own him, do not buy. At best he's the #3 scoring option, behind LT and Gates.

Major Game Day Inactives - Week 6

Patriots - The Boston Herald has reported that Laurence Maroney will be inactive for Week 6. Make sure that Sammy Morris is in your lineup. So much for the "smart money". Maroney is confirmed inactive, Morris gets the start.

Browns - Jamal Lewis is out. Jason Wright will start in his place and is an option if you're desperate, since the Dolphins are terrible against the run.

Texans - You should already know that Andre Johnson is not playing this week. The big news here is that it is now being reported by the Houston Chronicle that Johnson may be out until Week 11.

Jaguars - Fred Taylor is ACTIVE. Still, Maurice Jones-Drew is a much better option.

Bengals - Rudi Johnson is also ACTIVE, but Kenny Watson will start. Watson will likely get more carries, but Rudi will likely be the goal-line back.

Redskins - Antwaan Randle El is surprisingly ACTIVE. He's an awfully risky play this week, but he is starting.

Ravens - Steve McNair is active. Kyle Boller will start and is actually an upgrade for the Raven offense.

Rams - Unsurprisingly, Isaac Bruce and Marc Bulger are both inactive. and Drew Bennett and Gus Frerotte are starting.

Cardinals - Anquan Boldin is out of the game today, Bryant Johnson gets another start.

Raiders - LaMont Jordan is ACTIVE, surprisingly enough. The Oakland backfield will likely be a true RBBC today, killing the fantasy value of everyone involved.

Week 5 Fallout

Mercifully, there wasn't as much carnage in Week 5 as there had been in recent weeks.






Out For The Season:

Matt Leinart - QB - Arizona Cardinals
Former Paris Hilton boy-toy Matt Leinart has been placed in Injured Reserve, ending his season, from a fractured collarbone he sustained in Week 5 against the 49ers. Leinart really did not show much at all this year, but retains a high ceiling exclusively due to the awesome weapons in Arizona. Tim Rattay has been signed by the Cards to take Leinart's roster spot...stay away.

Jake Delhomme - QB - Carolina Panthers
Been a few weeks since you've seen this guy. It will be a whole bunch more before he's seen again. He will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery and his NFL future is in question. There is a very good chance that if he comes back, it will be to compete for a backup job. David Carr takes over as starting QB, although he's also hurt, so there is a good chance that Matt Moore will start in Week 6. Yikes.

Trent Green - QB - Miami Dolhpins
Green took a nasty knee to the noodle, and much like in 2006, was strapped to a gurney and carried off the field. It's not yet official that he'll miss the season, but I would be shocked if his career wasn't over after this latest concussion, a Grade 3 (the worst kind). Cleo Lemon gets a shot to show what he's got, but John Beck will eventually get his opportunity.

Recently Wounded:

Damon Huard - QB - Kansas City Chiefs
Huard left the game late on Sunday with an injured shoulder. An MRI didn't show any damage, and despite a previous report to the contrary, Huard could be active and start against the Bengals in Week 6. Still, you don't want any part of him. Coach Edwards desperately wants Brodie Croyle to be his starter...you don't want any part of that, either.

Michael Pittman - RB - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Pittman is expected to miss 6-8 weeks with an ankle sprain. This leaves Earnest Graham as Tampa Bay's primary RB, although the Bucs have reported interest in every single RB that has ever taken a snap in the NFL. They are currently awaiting word on the availability of O.J. Simpson on a work-release program. Graham should already be owned in all leagues, if he's available in yours, pick him up.

Jamal Lewis - RB - Cleveland Browns
J-Lew left Sunday's game after 1 carry and did not return. He seems to believe that he could have returned, but the Browns wanted to play this cautiously. This doesn't sound like any big deal.

Santonio Holmes - WR - Pittsburgh Steelers
Holmes pulled his hamstring in pre-game warmups and many an owner likely didn't find out the news until it was too late to remove him from their lineup, since he remained active. He should return after Pitt's Week 6 bye.

Deion Branch - WR - Seattle Seahawks
Neon Deion is expected to miss 2 games with a mid-foot sprain. Seattle has a Week 8 bye, so keep Branch out of your lineup until receiving further word in Week 9. Bobby Engram and Nate Burleson take slight value bumps, while Matt Hasselbeck takes a hit.

Antwaan Randle El - WR - Washington Redskins
Twaan was on his way to an absolutely monster game against the Lions, until he suddenly injured his hammy late in the first half. He is expected to return to action in Week 6.

Eddie Kennison - WR - Kansas City Chiefs
He re-injured his hammy shortly after appearing for the very first time this season. He is not expected to be available in Week 6. Dwayne Bowe is the only KC WR that you should really ever look at, although Samie Parker will likely start at the opposite end this week. If you were still holding onto Kennison...why?!

Chris Henry - WR - Cincinnati Bengals
Still only halfway through his 8 game suspension, Henry was in court today for violating his probation. This guy is dumber than a box of rocks. There is a decent chance this his reinstatement will be rejected if he did, in fact, violate his probation. Keep a close eye on this and cut bait if the time comes.

Week 4 Fallout

Running Backs continue to drop like flies across the NFL.
Here is a quick look at the significant injuries from Sunday's Week 4 slate.


Carnell Williams - The Cadillac will be parked in the garage for the remainder of the 2007 season. Grab Michael Pittman and/or Earnest Graham immediately. Williams has a torn patella tendon, it is reportedly career threatening.

LaMont Jordan - Jordan sustained a back injury on Sunday. The word is that Jordan will likely miss significant time. This is a huge blow, given Jordan's tremendous comeback season. Dominic Rhodes will be back following Oakland's Week 5 bye. Rhodes will lose some touches to Justin Fargas.

Joseph Addai - Addai laid on the ground for a while after a gang tackle late on Sunday. It is reported as a bruised shoulder
, and that he could have returned if the Colts weren't already in control.

Brian Westbrook - Hopefully you played it safe and benched him in Week 4. Westbrook reportedly has a torn muscle in his abdomen. The Eagles have a Week 5 bye, Westbrook should be back for Week 6.

Marvin Harrison - A very scary moment for his owners. Harrison returned to the game, but was then pulled. Speculation is that it may be an MCL injury, which has sidelined Andre Johnson. This certainly warrants keeping a close eye on.

Santana Moss - Yes, he was on a bye. However, the Redskins signed Keenan McCardell today. Rumor is that Moss will miss at least Week 5 with a groin strain.

Anquan Boldin - Also inactive for Week 4. Boldin is seeking out a second opinion on his injured hip. Keep an eye on him, hopefully he won't miss that tasty match up against St. Louis.

Calvin Johnson - He warmed up on Sunday, attempting to get loose, but to no avail. It would be a very big surprise if he missed Week 5.

Javon Walker - Yet another Week 4 inactive. His Week 5 status is also currently unknown. It would be a surprise if he didn't play.

Alex Smith - Smith suffered a separated shoulder Sunday. He has already been ruled out for Week 5. Trent Dilfer is once again a starting quarterback in the NFL.

Jake Delhomme - He was inactive on Sunday. Delhomme admitted today that elbow surgery is a possibility if it does not heal soon. David Carr was abysmal on Sunday.

Vernon Davis - Yes, he was inactive on Sunday. He'll be inactive again in Week 5. Just posting this to let you know. That partially torn MCL is a big concern.

Todd Heap - Heap injured his hamstring in the lower part of his leg. His status for Week 5 is unknown at this time.
