POWERHOUSE Pick-Ups Week 10

Another week has come and gone and once again we a have number of potential waiver wire gems to be had. The fantasy playoffs are rapidly approaching so it’s about that time to start eyeing towards playoff schedules and making moves accordingly. On to this weeks pick-ups.

Quarterbacks

David Garrard, Jacksonville- A high ankle sprain has sidelined Garrard for the last 2 weeks. I’m sure there are a number of impatient owners out there that decided to cut bait with this guy. Take advantage. There is even an outside chance he could be ready to play this week. He was putting up solid point totals before he went down and I like him as a high upside QB2.

JP Losman, Buffalo- Losman has injected some big play ability into what had been a dink-and-dunk offense under Trent Edwards. Nobody is smiling more than Lee Evans these days, unless you are an Evans owner that is. Buffalo is better than you think and I expect the good times to continue this week in Miami against the winless Dolphins. Play Losman when the match up is right.

Running Backs

Justin Fargas, Oakland- Justin Fargas was officially named Oakland’s starting tailback. Hopefully you took my advice from last week and snatched him up. He has played fantastic of late and I see no reason why that will change. I see Fargas as an admirable RB2.

Maurice Morris, Seattle- BING BING!! That sound you here is Shaun Alexander’s gas-light illuminating. Alexander’s days as a fantasy stud appear to be over. Morris has been seeing an increased workload of late and has made the most of his opportunity. I have a feeling we won’t be seeing much of Alexander this Monday night against San Francisco due to a number of nagging injuries. Morris makes for a nice flex play this week and a guy worth stashing.

Priest Holmes/Kolby Smith, Kansas City- Larry Johnson sprained his foot in last weeks game vs. Green Bay. Early prognosis is that he will miss a least one game, maybe more. Holmes and Smith will be sharing the rushing duties until LJ can return. Kansas City has a great match up vs. Denver, and we all know how well they can stop the run. I see some short term value here, nothing more.

Wide Receivers

Chris Henry, Cincinnati- If Henry is still available in your league this is officially your last chance to get him. Henry will return from his 8 game suspension this week and could be heavily relied upon if Chad Johnson misses any time with his neck injury. Even if Johnson doesn’t miss any time Henry is sure to get some balls thrown his way. I see Henry as a WR3 with a chance to produce as a WR2 at times.

Sidney Rice, Minnesota- Meet the most talented rookie on the Minnesota Vikings not named Adrian Peterson. The high draft choice had a good day Sunday with 66 yards and a score. There are rumblings that Brooks Bollinger might take over for Tarvaris Jackson which should help out the Viking pass attack and boost Rice’s value. Again, not a guy to run out and get but someone to keep an eye on.

Reggie Williams, Jacksonville- 3 words, first round bust. In case you missed it, Williams put forth a 6 catch 128 yard TD effort on Sunday. I’m not recommending running out and picking him up, but he is worth keeping an eye on.

Tight End

Donald Lee, Green Bay- I recommended Lee 2 weeks ago and it looks like someone from the Packer front office took notice. Just yesterday Lee signed a 4 year contract extension to remain in Green Bay. Lee grabbed 4 passes for 78 yards last week at KC and it marks the second time in 3 games that he has caught for more than 70 yards. That’s pretty good. Go get him if you need help at TE.

Defense/STs

Carolina Panthers- Meow?? The Panthers have played more like pussycats this season. They did show some signs of life vs. Vince Young and co. this past week recording 3 sacks, 2 INTs, and 1 FF. Looking ahead, they have a tremendous match up when the Joey Harrington-led Falcons come to town this week. If your starting defense is on a bye (New England, Tampa Bay), or just plain stinks like mine (Oakland), Carolina is an appealing option.

That about wraps it up for this week. Happy waiver-claiming and good luck with your week 10 games.
